Helping Kids Cope with a Loss

It was a beautiful day outside across Upper Michigan, and a perfect night for a bike ride. A few non–profit groups took advantage of the nice weather and played host to an evening of fun for kids who may be dealing with the loss of a loved one.

The Upper Peninsula Children’s Bereavement Network, Camp Star, and the YMCA of Marquette County held a picnic and bike riding event tonight. This gives kids a chance to meet other kids going through a similar situation.

Each year camp star hosts a camp for kids dealing with a loss.
This is a new effort from the group. They are trying to get out more in the community and bring families together more often.

Each year, camp star hosts a weekend long camp for these kids.
It’s a week filled with traditional, fun camp activities combined with grief education and emotional support.
