Duck Lake fire update meeting Wednesday

Members of the Senate Natural Resources, Environment and Great Lakes Committee along with members of the Senate Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR) Appropriations Subcommittee and members of the House Forestry & Mining Subcommittee will meet Wednesday in Newberry to discuss the Duck Lake fire.

The session will begin at 8 a.m. in the basement of the Luce County Health Department, 14150 Hamilton Lake Road in Newberry, and at the
Anderson House Office Building, Room 308, 124 North Capitol Avenue in
Lansing.

The joint committee meeting will include a presentation by the DNR on the Duck Lake fire and testimony from local Newberry community leaders and residents who have assisted with and been impacted by the fire.

Senate Resolution 158, introduced by State Senator Tom Casperson (R-Escanaba) will also be adopted to urge the president of the United States to declare a major disaster or emergency for areas in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula impacted by the Duck Lake wildfire.
