The Michigan Department of Transportation inspection of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge begins June 5.
The Houghton County project will affect traffic on US-41/M-26 near Houghton and Hancock.
It is scheduled to begin Tuesday, June 5, and be completed by Thursday, June 7.
It will involve etailed inspection of the vertical lift bridge, including evaluation of structural, mechanical and electrical components.
Intermittent lane closures and frequent opening of the bridge will be required from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. One lane of traffic will be open in each direction. In accordance with a permit from the U.S. Coast Guard, mariners will be required to give a 30-minute advance notice requesting the bridge to be opened during the inspection period
