Click It or Ticket Returns

In an effort to return the state’s seat belt usage rate to the all–time high of 98% that it had in 2009, more than 160 law enforcement agencies in 26 Michigan counties are taking part in the return of the Click It or Ticket campaign.

And in Marquette County this morning, the Chocolay Township Police Department and the Michigan State Police held a press conference to help kick off the campaign.

They say that over the next two weeks, police will be stopping motorists both day and night to reinforce the importance of buckling up.

However, seat belts are not the only thing that law enforcement will be on the lookout for — they’ll be watching for impaired drivers, too.

Seat belts are the most effective safety feature available in vehicles today.

The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning says that when seat belts are used properly, the risk of being killed in a crash is reduced by 45%.
