More Marquette County Wildfires

Fire crews in Marquette County were busy once again fighting fires today.

A grass fire in Ishpeming Township was reported late this afternoon, and earlier in the day a wildfire ignited behind a residential area at K.I. Sawyer.

Fire units were called to a fire in the woods behind houses on Fortress Street.

The call came in just before 12:30 pm.

DNR Gwinn firefighting technician Jimmy Johnston says the flames moved away from nearby houses, and crews were able to contain it, only losing about half an acre.

The Skandia-West Branch Fire Department assisted the DNR at the scene.
