Luce, Mackinac, Schoolcraft and Chippewa Co Ballot Issues

Residents of the Tahquamenon School District Non Residential Property Tax Renewal will send voters from CHIPPEWA, LUCE, SCHOOLCRAFT AND MACKINAC COUNTIES to the ballot box today.

This measure seeks to renew the current non residential property tax which is set at a rate of $18 per $1,000 of assessed value for a period of one year in order to further pay for school operational costs in the district.

The question on the ballot:

Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, in Tahquamenon Area Schools, Luce, Schoolcraft, Mackinac and Chippewa Counties, Michigan, be increased by 18 mills ($18.00 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for the year 2012, to provide funds for operation purposes, the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2012 is approximately $2,947,624 (this is a renewal of millage which expired with the 2011 tax levy)?

For MACKINAC AND CHIPPEWA COUNTY voters, a Pickford School District Non Residential Property Tax Renewal measure will be on the May 8, 2012 ballot in the Pickford school district.

This measure seeks to renew the current non residential property tax which is set at a rate of $18 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further year in order to continue to pay for operational costs in the school district.

The question on the ballot:

Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, in Pickford Public Schools, Chippewa and Mackinac Counties, Michigan, be increased by 18 mills ($18.00 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for the year 2012, to provide funds for operating purposes; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2012 is approximately $532,207 (this is a renewal of millage which expired with the 2011 tax levy)?

For Mackinac Island residents, city offices up for election have unopposed candidates running for 2012. Mayor Margaret Doud, Clerk Karen Lennard, Treasurer Richard Linn, Assessor Robert Benser, and Supervisor Ronald Dufina are running for reelection, each for a one-year term.

Two city council seats are up for election, and Frank Bloswick will seek relection. Former council member Jason St. Onge will seek the seat of Mike Hart, who is retiring from the board.

CHIPPEWA COUNTY

The Brimley School District Non Residential Property Tax Increase measure will be on the May 8, 2012 ballot in the Brimley school district area.

This measure seeks to increase the current non residential property tax to one set at a rate of $18 per $1,000 of assessed value for a period of four years in order to further pay for school operational costs in the district.[1]

The question on the ballot:

Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, in Brimley Area Schools, Chippewa County, Michigan, be increased by 3.4775 mills ($3.4775 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a period of 4 years, 2012 to 2015, inclusive, to provide funds for operating purposes; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2012 is approximately $140,100 (this millage is a renewal of millage that expired in 2011 and will be levied only to the extent necessary to restore millage lost as a result of the reduction required by the Michigan Constitution of 1963)?
