NMU Talks About Formula Funding

NMU’s commencement is taking place on Saturday, and that means a Board of Trustees meeting is also taking place.

The board held several committee meetings today, but when the full board gets together Friday morning, it’ll discuss the idea of state formula funding for higher education.

The formulas are often based on students graduating with four–year degrees within six years.

The concept has come up more than once since Governor Rick Snyder took office.

NMU President Dr. Les Wong says the formulas often punish rural Michigan Public 15 schools like NMU, but he says so far, the legislature and the governor have been receptive to concerns about the formulas that he and other Public 15 university presidents have raised.
