State of the Air Report Omits U.P.

The American Lung Association’s annual State of the Air report is out.

For most of the Upper Peninsula there’s a problem: the U.P. isn’t listed in the report.

The annual report is a way for cities to see how they stack up when it comes to air pollution.

But for most of the U.P., there was no information available.

Fred Benzie of the Marquette County Health Department says this problem could be fixed.

He’s concerned about what the report would show about the Marquette area, though, since Marquette is home to two coal-fired power plants which produce particulate emissions every day.

The issue of air flow from Canada that brings pollution to the U.P. is also not addressed in the study.
