NMU's Hewitt breaks school record

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Northern Michigan University outdoor track and field team competed at the Penn Relays, the nation’s largest track and field meet, on Thursday and Friday (April 26-27). The Wildcats had two top ten finishes and broke a school record.

Redshirt freshman Sherice Hewett finished fourth in the College Division of the triple jump with a school record jump of 40-feet-8.25. Her new mark improves her provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championship.

Sophomore Jamie Roberts finished 10th in the College Division of the pole vault on Thursday (April 26) with a jump of 11-feet-11.75.

Senior Bailey Franklin finished 17th in the high jump, clearing 5-feet-3.

The 4×100 relay team won its heat in 48.09 seconds and finished 42nd overall. Freshman Angelina Howard, senior Catherine Angeli, sophomore Samara White and freshman Olivia Howard ran the event.

The Wildcats compete at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships next weekend from the campus of Grand Valley State University.
