U.P. World War II Vets Arrive in D.C.

79 Upper Michigan World War II veterans taking part in the second U.P. Honor Flight received a water cannon welcome when their plane arrived at Baltimore Washington International Airport at 8 a.m.

The veterans left Escanaba at 6:30 a.m. They will spend the day touring various memorials in Washington, D.C. and will lay a wreath at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier this afternoon.

Mission II of the U.P. Honor Flight will return to Escanaba at 9:30 pm. Festivities planned for the “Welcome Home” include big band and barbershop-style music and plenty of flag-waving Upper Michigan residents in a show of support and appreciation for the former military members.
