Electric vehicle owners will now be able to charge cars at a public charging station in downtown Houghton on the parking deck.
This is the first EV charging station in the U.P. available for public use.
The new station was unveiled this afternoon at the 5th & Elm Coffee House.
Michigan Tech students were key to bringing the station here.
They say most EV owners are likely to charge their vehicles at home, but limited battery capacity and range make a public charging station important.
Initially, the Houghton station will offer free charging courtesy of 5th & Elm Coffee House.
