Tech's Anderson Runs Provisional Qualifying Time

ALLENDALE, Mich.- Michigan Tech junior Dylan Anderson won the 800-meter run in a provisional qualifying time of 1:52.03 at the Al Owens Track and Field Classic Saturday (April 20) hosted by Grand Valley State. The time was the third fastest in school, a personal-best by Anderson and ranks 14th in the nation.

Fellow junior Nathan Saliga won the decathlon with a school record 5,858 points. Teammate Pat Spalding was second with a personal-best 5,373 points, third best in school history.

Nate Hood finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 45-10.75, the fourth-best performance in school history. Teammate Jevon Maddox was ninth with a leap of 42-10.25.

Senior Molly Wiltzius placed 11th in both the shot put (38-5) and the discus (132-0). Her shot put mark was the ninth-best at Tech and the discus mark ranks fifth. The Kingsford, Mich., native threw a season-best of 150-1 to finish 19th in the hammer throw. The mark was the second-best in school history.

Teammate Natalie Berrymen finished 14th in the shot put (37-6).

Junior Quinn Parnell finished first among Div. I runners and fifth overall in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.61, just .01 off a provisional qualifying time. The time is tied for third best at Tech. He also placed fifth in the 200 in a time of 21.96.

Teammate Sam McKay was 11th in 22.59.

The Huskies had three men finish in the top-10 of the 5,000-meters. Jon Kilpela was seventh (16:30.98), Evan Krzyske was ninth (15:34.75) and Eric Parsell was 10th (15:36.39). Marissa Yovetich was 17th in the women’s 5,000-meters in a time of 19:27.92.

Tech also had three top-10 finishes in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Bradon Kampstra was fourth (9:46.88), Jon Graves was sixth (10:01.46) in the men’s race. Elizabeth Stempihar was seventh (12:47.78) in the women’s race. Two Tech runners ran great 1,500 races. Senior Anastasia Fokina finished 11th in a season-best 4:46.75. Karl Koivisto ran a personal-best of 4:04.66 to finish second among NCAA Div. II athletes and 21st overall.

Dani Brzezinski ran a personal-best of 60.72 to finish 21st in the 400-meter dash and was a member of the 4×400-meter relay team that finished 16th and ran the eight fast time in school history (4:15.36). Other members of the relay included Marie Mets, Nicholle Stark and Amanda Halonen.

Ben Kalis posted top-25 performances in both hurdle events, finishing 14th in the 110-meter (15.77) and 25th in the 400 (59.81).

Brendan Banker finished eighth in the high jump (6-2.75), and Sam McKay was 11th in the long jump (20-9.75).

Jared Berrymen finished 16th in the shot put (42-4) and teammate Matt Savage was 21st (39-0.25). Matt Palo was 16th in the discus (130-4) and Ethan Miltenburger was 18th (129-1).

“This meet was a great opportunity for us to compete at a top notch facility that will also be hosting the conference championships,” said head coach Joe Haggenmiller. “Many of our student-athletes were very competitive today against not only some top Div. II student-athletes but Div. I as well. It was great to see Dylan get a provisional qualifying time. Quinn ran a great race and it was too bad he just missed a provisional mark. Overall we had many great performances including Molly in the throws and Nate and Pat in the decathlon, just to name a few.”
