Huuki honored by Michigan Association of Timbermen

The Michigan Association of Timbermen this month honored state Rep. Matt Huuki, R-Atlantic Mine, as the organization’s Legislator of the Year.

Denny Olson, MAT vice president and co-chair of the association’s Legislative Committee, said Huuki has been an enthusiastic, driving force for Michigan’s recovery.

“For being a freshman lawmaker, Rep. Huuki has really stepped up to the plate in a big way,” said Olson, a resident of Quinnesec Township. “He’s shown leadership and real enthusiasm, learning everything he can about how the timber industry is important to Michigan’s prosperity. He’s made himself a crucial part of the process, getting involved with issues affecting the industry, from forestry management right up to production.

Huuki thanked MAT and Olson for the high honors and words of support.

“It’s the job providers in our state that deserve the most praise, and the timbermen’s industry is unquestionably a major part of Michigan’s economy,” Huuki said. “I will continue to work with them to make sure Michigan’s industry is productive and responsible.”
