For the second consecutive Tuesday, Northern Michigan University held an open invitation to the public, to watch the second candidate for the open athletic director job give his presentation.

David Diles, the Director of Athletics and Chair of the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics, and Professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, delivered his pitch to the audience.

Diles has 18 years of experience underneath his belt of being an athletic director at several different schools and universities. At Case Western University, Diles has created a financial endowment for each varsity sport, which is something he will try to create at Northern if he is hired.

“Endowments I think are one of the best statements people can make to invest in the future of a program. We have a responsibility to prepare our department for subsequent generations, and I believe in endowments very much. We have a responsibility to invest in the future, so endowment campaigns will be part of our external relations plan,” said Diles.

During his tenure at Case Western, Diles has been in charge of building a new fieldhouse, which came with a cost of $8.5 million. Diles has also overseen the construction of new stadiums for both the baseball and softball teams.

Sean Johnson, the Senior Associate Athletic Director of External Affairs at the University of North Dakota, will deliver the third and final athletic director presentation this upcoming Thursday, April 19, at 4:15 P.M.
