Diocese of Marquette Receives $45,000 Grant

The Diocese of Marquette is one of 84 home mission dioceses in the U.S. and its dependencies that are receiving a 2012 grant from the Subcommittee on Catholic Home Missions.  The $45,000 grant includes $33,870 for The U.P. Catholic newspaper and $11,130 for prison ministry in the diocese.

The subcommittee oversees the Catholic Home Missions Appeal as part of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on National Collections.  The Diocese of Marquette will take up the Catholic Home Missions Appeal the weekend of April 21-22.

This collection supports home mission dioceses, which are dioceses that need outside help to offer basic pastoral services, such as catechesis, cultural ministry, seminarian education and lay leadership training.  The Subcommittee on Catholic Home Missions approved a total of $8.3 million in grants for 2012.
