The Michigan Department of Transportation wants U.P. residents to know what it’s up to this year on the roads and what it plans to do in the next four years as well.

MDOT held a public meeting this afternoon in Ishpeming on its five–year plan.

The plan is updated once a year, and each time it’s updated, MDOT hosts presentations for the public about it.

This year’s major project in the central U.P. is already underway.

It’s US–41 between Marquette and Harvey.

Next year, much of MDOT’s attention turns to the Keweenaw.

MDOT transportation engineer Andy Sikkema says they’ll be working on M-26 in Laurium in 2013 and on M-26 Hancock and Ripley in 2014.

MDOT held a similar meeting yesterday in Newberry.

And there’s another public meeting tomorrow, at 1 p–m central time, at the MDOT office in Crystal Falls.
