Gift of Life Day

So far this month, we’ve brought you several stories based around the fact that April is Donate Life Month around the country.

It’s a time to highlight the importance of organ and tissue donation.

Today was Gift of Life Day at Michigan Secretary of State offices.

Gift of Life Michigan, the Department of State, the Michigan Eye Bank and other groups arrange for volunteers to visit.

The volunteers help people sign up for the organ donor registry.

Larry Klaus of the Chocolay Township Lions Club says many people have a misconception about organ donation — that you can’t donate if you’ve ever received a transplant.

But you can — the only catch is that you can’t donate whatever organ you received in your transplant.

The Chocolay Township, Skandia, Gwinn and Marquette Lions Clubs all sent volunteers to the Marquette County Secretary of State office to help with Gift of Life Day.
