Fire Danger High in the U.P.

High winds and dry conditions led to a number of fires over the weekend throughout Upper Michigan.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has worked on 14 fires since Friday afternoon.

Fire conditions may have been perfect for the past few days resulting in the high fire danger.

But with some light precipitation over the weekend and the cooler temperatures moving in, DNR officers are confident that the danger level will soon drop.

It is important to take proper precautions if you are going to have a fire outside during dry conditions

The DNR works with the National Weather Service to predict the type of wildfire season expected.

So far, the prediction is about average.
