Good Friday Services

Area Christians have made their way to church today to observe the occasion of Good Friday.

Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marquette Township was one of many churches holding Good Friday services.

Some Christians also call today Holy Friday.

It marks Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and death.

Pastor Chad Ott says Good Friday is an occasion of mixed emotions, of sadness at the great price of our sins with God sending his son to die for us.

But he says it’s also a time of joy at the great love God has for us in Christ rising from the dead on Easter morning.

Churches around the world are celebrating that good news, but those churches don’t include Eastern Orthodox churches.

They don’t hold services on Good Friday.

And unlike Catholics, who are fasting but are still allowed to eat, Eastern Orthodox Christians aren’t supposed to eat anything today at all.
