MGH Remembers Organ Donors
April is Donate Life Month around the country.
It’s an occasion for health care professionals to spread the word about the importance of organ and tissue donation.
Marquette General held a remembrance ceremony and flag–raising this morning to honor local donors.
The donors included the son of Cheryl Moore, the hospital’s trauma program manager.
Cheryl’s son died in January, and she says she was speechless when she was told the hospital would have the ceremony.
More than 100,000 Americans are waiting for organ or tissue transplants, and nearly 20 people die in the U.S. every day because they need a transplant and can’t get one.
Moore says that for those reasons, it’s worth speaking with your family members about donation so that you’ll know their wishes if anything should happen to them.
The hospital will fly the ‘Donate Life’ flag through the end of April, and it’ll be raised again outside of April anytime someone donates organs or tissue.
