Explosion, then fire, at a Houghton County home
An explosion that led to a fire has destroyed a home in Houghton County.
A Houghton County family is safe thanks to the quick action by a neighbor just moments before an explosion at their home.
The incident happened on Pewabic Street in Laurium around 2:30 this morning.
Though the initial cause is unclear at this time, a fire began in the garage which led to the first explosion. That made enough noise to wake up Joe Goulette…who lives across the street.
The Laurium Fire Department battled the blaze, trying to protect the neighboring houses.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
