Hope Starts Here Challenge
A yearly tradition is returning to Marquette later this spring to help fund a good cause.
The Hope Starts Here Challenge is a duathlon — a 5–kilometer run, a 10–K mountain bike race and then another 5-K run.
It benefits the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center, and it’s the only fundraiser the center conducts all year.
Dr. Richard Rovin says the duathlon isn’t the only event in the challenge; besides 5-K and 10-K runs, it’s also adding a competitive half-marathon this year.
The center is a joint program between Marquette General Health System and Northern Michigan University.
It conducts research with the help of NMU undergrad and graduate students.
Dr. Rovin says that since the center started in 2005, 26 stduents that have worked with it have gone on to medical school.
The Hope Starts Here Challenge will take place on Saturday, May 12th.
