Red Cross Volunteer Training

The Superior Upper Peninsula Chapter of the American Red Cross is looking for new volunteers.

The group says it needs help in 13 of the U.P.’s 15 counties — all of them except for Dickinson and Menominee Counties.

Volunteers would help victims of disasters, from local families whose homes have burned down to communities across the country hit by tornadoes or hurricanes.

Red Cross disaster services training is free of charge, and the group has courses in the following locations and at the following times:

March 24th — Lac Vieux Desert Resort Casino in Watersmeet

Disaster Services Overview: 9am to noon

Client Casework: 12:30 pm to 6 pm

March 31st — Newberry Youth Center

Disaster Services Overview — 9 am to noon

Client Casework — 12:30 pm to 6 pm

Disaster College at the Marquette Red Cross office

March 20th: Disaster Services Overview — 6 pm to 10 pm

March 22nd: Shelter Operations — 6 pm to 10 pm

March 27th: Shelter Simulation — 6 pm to 10 pm

March 29th: Disaster Assessment Basics — 6 pm to 10 pm

April 5th & 10th: Client Casework (both nights are

required) — 6 pm to 10 pm

April 12th: Simulation & Graduation — 6 pm to 10 pm

The group is asking anyone interested to sign up at least two days in advance.
