Late-Winter Skiing

With the temperatures surging upward today, most of the snow cover we’ve picked up in the last week is likely to melt soon.

But even with limited snowfall this winter, Marquette Mountain is having a strong season.

When we visited, we saw a large number of skiers from Ohio hitting the hill — there were many Ohio license plates on cars in the parking lots.

And that’s been common throughout this winter.

Marquette Mountain general manager Vern Barber says other areas of the upper Midwest have had snow be even harder to come by, so he’s seen quite a few people from outside the area that he hasn’t seen at the hill before.

As we’ve seen already this month, March weather in the U.P. is difficult to predict.

But Barber says with a relatively normal March, he expects the ski hill will remain open for the season until April 10th.

That’s two days after Easter.
