NMU's Macaulay named CCHA Gladiator Defeseman of the Week

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Junior Scott Macaulay, of the Northern Michigan hockey team has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Gladiator Defenseman of the Week after his performance over the weekend in a sweep of Lake Superior State.

The 5-7 defenseman, a native of Winnipeg, Man., tallied five assists on the weekend. NMU’s penalty kill was also a perfect 10-for-10 in the two games.

On Friday, Macaulay assisted on redshirt freshman Reed Seckel’s first period goal. He also had two blocks in NMU’s 6-2 win.

Macaulay had a career-high four assists in Saturday’s 5-3 victory. He assisted on senior forward Tyler Gron and freshman forward Ryan Daugherty’s first period goals. In the second period, he assisted on junior forward Matt Thurber and junior defenseman Kyle Follmer’s tallies.

Macaulay has 14 assists and three goals this season. In 101 career games, he has four goals and 34 assists.

Northern is the No. 6 seed in the CCHA Tournament, hosting No. 11-seeded Bowling Green in a best-of-three series. The puck drops at 7:35 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, if necessary, from the Berry Events Center.
