Smoothie Day at Cherry Creek School

Health benefits were the lesson of the day at a local elementary school as students enjoyed the fruits of their labor.

As part of the nationwide Fuel Up to Play 60 program sponsored by the NFL and the National Dairy Council, Cherry Creek Elementary students in Marquette have been brainstorming new ways to bring healthy foods into their diet.

The latest idea the group came up with was Smoothie Day.

But the effort to get kids in the Marquette Area Public Schools to eat healthy doesn’t stop with Smoothie Day.

Registered dietician Dr. Lanae Joubert says the food service people with the Marquette Area Public Schools are making better school lunch menus through small, gradual changes.

Cherry Creek received a grant from the Fuel Up to Play 60 program, which made it possible for about 300 students to enjoy the healthy and refreshing snack today.
