Universities across Upper Michigan are stepping up to make it easier for college-bound students to apply for financial assistance.

Throughout February, Northern Michigan University’s financial aid office will be holding extending hours.

The goal is to help more high school students and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.

The office will be open from 5 until 7 each Wednesday night in February.

Kyle Rubin of Michigan Tech University’s Financial Aid Department says the Keweenaw College Access Network has also organized several events to help students in the Copper Country get over the FAFSA hurdle.

The first event, College Goal Sunday, is February 12th from 2 to 4 pm at Finlandia University.

Students can also find help at Michigan Tech, and FAFSA completion nights are also taking place at several U.P. high schools.

High school counselors have more details.
