USO-Style Variety Show for Veterans' Program

Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters may not have been known for performing in the U.P.

But there’s a musical blast from the past this weekend in which they would all feel right at home.

They all frequently performed in USO variety shows during World War II.

‘Stars of Glory’ is a revival of those shows.

It’ll be hosted by the U.P. Honor Flight as a fundraiser to help the group accomplish its unique mission.

Barb Van Rooy says that mission is to provide free trips for World War II veterans to the World War II National Memorial in Washington, D.C., at no charge to the veterans.

‘Stars of Glory’ will take place at 2 pm Saturday at Escanaba High School.

Tickets are $15 each.

Those tickets are for sale at the Walgreens store in Escanba, Gladstone Super Valu and at Baybank in Rapid River.

Van Rooy says there may also be some tickets available at the door tomorrow.
