MTEC SmartZone Grant

Business startups and small companies in the U.P. need a place to go to get that initial push.

Such a place in Houghton got itself a boost from a state grant.

The MTEC SmartZone in Houghton was awarded $750,000 today by the state of Michigan to support job creation through local and statewide collaboration.

The grant comes from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, a state resource for businesses seeking to grow.

CEO Marilyn Clark explains that the grant will be used to help companies out of the starting gate.

Companies that work with MTEC SmartZone have a much better chance at succeeding, and that’s a win for everyone in the U.P.
