Tigers' Martinez likely out for season

Detroit Tigers catcher/designated hitter Victor Martinez is likely lost for the entire 2012 season, after tearing the ACL in his left knee last week during an off-season workout.

The Tigers signed Martinez to a 4 year/$50 million dollar deal in 2011. Martinez hit cleanup most of the season, protecting 1B Miguel Cabrera in the process. Martinez will see a surgeon for evaluation later this week. If the injury requires surgery, Martinez will most likely be lost for all of 2012.

Last year, Martinez hit .330 with 40 doubles, 12 home runs, and 103 RBIs in 145 games played.
