Guilty plea in attempted robbery

An Atlantic Mine teenager is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to several attempted robbery-related charges.

In Circuit Court on Friday…18-year-old Paden Rothenberger pled guilty to breaking and entering with intent—a 10 year felony…and attempted bank robbery and attempted safe-craking—both five year felonies.

In return for his guilty plea, the prosecution dropped the charge of safe-cracking which carried a possible life sentence.

Rothenberger was charged along with fellow suspect Gordon Lewis in the attempted robbery of an ATM in South Range in October.

Rothenberger was also said to have tried to rob a Superior National Bank in Chassell and Sayen’s Business Equipment in Hancock.

Sentencing is scheduled to take place in about four weeks.  Rothenberger is not expected to receive any jail time as part of the plea arrangement.
