USDA Forestland Management Plan Money
The federal government wants local residents to know about grant money that can be used to help manage privately–owned forestland.
Very few people have taken advantage of the cash from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The money would be used to have a professional forester develop a management plan for you.
The program has been around for some time, but the USDA says not enough U.P. landowners are aware of it.
Jerry Davis of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service says eligibility issues are the only sticking points to receiving grant money.
At this point in the program, no one who is certified as eligible and applies is turned down.
The payout can range from about $700 to about $4,200 depending on the amount of forestland each person owns.
Jerry Davis says you can contact either the Marquette or Alger Conservation District for more information.
