Fire Destroys Marquette County Home

Access to water made fire fighting efforts difficult at a Marquette County structure fire Friday evening. A fire at a home at 142 Kivela Road in Negaunee Township was the focus of crews from a number of community fire departments.

The fire was reported just after eight Friday evening at the home in a rural area north of US 41 near the old Marquette County airport. The lack of fire hydrants near the home means pumper trucks had fill up at hydrants several miles away and truck the water back to the fire scene.

Water was trucked from hydrants near the Negaunee post of the Michigan State Police to the fire scene.

Firefighters from Negaunee Township were assisted by several area fire departments including Ishpeming Township and Negaunee city. No word yet on what caused the fire.
