Beacon House Fundraising

A U.P. nonprofit group is allowing eight lucky people to celebrate the New Year in style in Green Bay.

Marquette’s Beacon House recently held a Packers ticket raffle for the third straight year.

Four winners each received a pair of Packers–Lions skybox tickets for this Sunday at Lambeau Field.

The drawing raised $21,750, its largest amount yet.

Beacon House development director Mary Dowling says the proceeds will go a long way toward helping the house meet its budgetary needs for the year.

Another recent fundraiser didn’t go quite as planned, but it brought a very welcome donation to Beacon House just the same.

Dowling says they weren’t able to raffle off a refrigerator as they’d recently intended, but the company offering to donate the fridge gave Beacon House a $1,000 check instead.

Beacon House is a home away from home for people who have to travel to the Marquette area for medical treatment.

It serves about 10,000 people a year, and it has to sustain itself on community donations.
