One of Dickinson County’s largest employers wins recognition for its commitment to hiring military veterans.
Grede LLC in Kingsford is the winner of the Michigan Works! Veteran Employer of the Year award.
The award comes as part of Hire–a–Veteran Month in Michigan.
General manager Randy Priem says as a veteran himself, it was a tremendous honor to hear that the company had been considered for that kind of award.
Fifty Grede employees are veterans, and that’s about one-eighth of the iron foundry’s work force.
Two other employees are active–duty military as well.
John Deere and Caterpillar Tractor are among Grede’s largest customers.
The foundry also makes some of the parts in the Chevy Volt plug–in electric vehicle.
