Bank Robbery Suspect in Court
The armed robbery suspect from the Chocolay Township bank robbery a month ago was in federal court this morning.
ABC 10’s Dan Gualdoni was there and has the details.
Justin D. McLean is back in the Marquette County Jail tonight after his appearance in U.S. District Court.
The downstate Cheboygan man had a preliminary hearing today in Marquette.
McLean is charged with armed bank robbery, which carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison.
The charges stem from the October 12th armed robbery of the Northern Michigan Bank and Trust in Harvey.
McLean waived the reading of his two-page indictment.
And when asked to plead to the charges, he stood mute.
The judge entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.
He will continued to be held at the Marquette County Jail and may request a bond hearing.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Maarten Vermaat says a pretrial hearing is set for next month, and McLean’s trial is set to begin January 3rd.
McLean is accused of making off with $1,082 from the bank.
He was arrested in the state of Wyoming four days later after a routine traffic stop.
McLean also faces several charges in Cheboygan County.
