MTU does well in competition

A team from Michigan Tech is among the top 10 in its region following the first round of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest…the so-called “Battle of the Brains”.

Associate professor of computer science and the team coach David Poplawski said based on preliminary results…Team Magenta now has a chance to go to the world finals,.

Tens of thousands of students and hundreds of colleges and universities on six continents compete in the contest. Teams of three students apply their programming skills to solve complex, real-world problems within five hours.

Poplawski explained that regional winners and up to three or four other top finishers are chosen to compete in the world finals in Warsaw, Poland. Judges consider a variety of factors, so Poplawski said there is a chance that Team Magenta could be invited.
