Snow-Related Driving Problems

Late this afternoon, the Michigan Department of Transportation sent out a notice that wet, blowing snow has been sticking to traffic signal lenses on some Upper Peninsula highways today.

MDOT crews are clearing the signals as quickly as possible, but this adds another layer of caution to piloting a vehicle through the storm.

The weather has made for treacherous road conditions today, playing a role in several accidents across the U.P.

A one-vehicle accident in Ishpeming left one man injured.

It happened just before 1:30 this afternoon on Saginaw Street.

A woman apparently lost control of the vehicle and swerved, hitting a tree on the opposite side of the road.

A male passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle after suffering a neck injury in the crash.

Ishpeming Police were assisted by Ishpeming Fire & Rescue, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, Bell Hospital EMS and Marquette General EMS.
