M-Tech Football’s Armstrong named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. — Michigan Tech football player Justin Armstrong (Las Vegas, Nev./Mojave) has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week it was announced by the league office today.

Armstrong, a junior linebacker, posted nine tackles including 2.0 for loss and and sack in Tech’s 41-14 victory over Ferris State last Saturday (Nov. 5). Despite the Huskies’ defense being on the field less than 20 minutes of the game, Armstrong had a forced fumble and pass breakup to go with his nine tackles.

Michigan Tech’s defense held Ferris to 274 total yards — well below their incoming season average of 450. Armstrong has started all 10 games this season for a Huskies’ unit that leads the GLIAC in total defense (288.6 yards allowed per game) and scoring defense (17.7 points allowed per game).

Michigan Tech will take a 6-4 record into its season finale Saturday (Nov. 12) against rival Northern Michigan. The 10th annual battle for the Miner’s Cup will kick off at 1 p.m. at NMU’s Superior Dome in Marquette.
