1430th Engineer Battalion is back in Upper Michigan

Red, white and blue greeted a chartered plane carrying the members of the Gladstone based 1430th Engineer Battalion soldiers when it landed at Sawyer International Airport this morning, about a half hour ahead of schedule.

With a touchdown welcome from school children, airport personnel and members of the Patriot Guard Riders, the soldiers loaded onto buses for a “Welcome Home” Celebration at Gladstone High School. The members of the Michigan Army National Guard had been on a deployment to Afghanistan for over a year.

ABC 10 reporters at both Sawyer International Airport and the “Welcome Home” event will bring you both the arrival of the troops and the reunion with their families at 5:30 pm tonight on ABC 10 News Now with Cynthia Thompson.
