Fraud Charges for Ishpeming Couple

An Ishpeming couple is facing up to 42 years in prison after being charged with check fraud.

After a lengthy investigation by the Negaunee Police Department, 31-year-old Jesse James Paris and his wife, 33-year-old Sharon Lynn Puuri, have each been charged with three counts of uttering and publishing.

Each felony carries a penalty of up to 14 years in prison if there’s a conviction.

The charges stem from a report of check fraud earlier in the month when several Marquette County businesses and a Negaunee business were victimized.

Warrants were issued for the couple two weeks later.

The Negaunee Police were then notified by DePere, Wisconsin police that Paris was being held there after being arrested in DePere for retail fraud and disorderly conduct.

Extradition proceedings have been started to bring Paris back to Michigan to face the uttering and publishing charges.

Additional charges are also being considered on both related and unrelated incidents.

Puuri was arrested at a home on Maas Street in Negaunee and is being held in the Marquette County Jail.

Further charges against Puuri are being reviewed at this time.
