October is domestic and sexual violence awareness month and tonight the women’s center opened the doors of “The Harbor House” giving community members a view inside the sole emergency shelter available to women and children in Marquette and Alger Counties.
The Harbor House often operates at maximum capacity.
The number of women and children staying at the shelter has increased by 68% in the last eight years.
Proving that their is a real need for assistance in the community.
The Women’s Center doesn’t just provide temporary housing.
The organization helps women start their lives over.
The women’s center will be hosting the eight annual chef’s against domestic and sexual violence fundraiser later this month.
It takes place saturday October 29th at the Landmark Inn.
Tickets are available at the Women’s Center and the Landmark.
