NMU Resume-Writing Workshop

Navigating the job market can be a harrowing experience for college students and recent graduates.

Northern Michigan University Career Services is trying to help pave the road.

NMU’s fall job fair is coming up Wednesday afternoon.

But Career Services holds workshops on specific skills in advance of that, like one tonight on resume writing.

they say the one mistake they see the most in resumes is a lack of proofreading.

NMU Career Services assistant director Steven LaFond says it always helps to have another pair of eyes look a resume over because those extra eyes can often catch a typo or misspelling.

How your resume is written can also help you out.

It’ll help to describe skills you’ve learned from each job you’ve had as quickly as possible.

LaFond says most employers spend very little time examining resumes that they receive, so the more effectively you can use the limited space you have on a resume to sell yourself, the better off you are.
