Food Bank Collection Begins

The Michigan Harvest Gathering begins this weekend and is aiming to gather 300,000 pounds of non-perishable items for Michigan Food Banks.

Portage Health and the Michigan Health and Hospital Association are teaming up to help make this happen. Each of the last few years, Portage Health has raised more than 1,000 pounds of goods but they are hoping to do much better this time around. Food Services Director and Portage Health’s Ambassador for this project Mark Pittillo said they’d like to get 5,000 pounds to donate this year.

Donations will be accepted from October 1st until the 14th in the hospital’s lobby, emergency department entrance, and café.

There will also be a donation drop-off on Saturday, October 1st from 10 A-M till Noon at Pat’s Food’s in Hancock as well as Econo Foods and Walmart in Houghton.

All the items gathered by Portage Health will be donated to the Western U.P. Food Bank.
