Casperson sponsors “Caylee’s Law”

A bill sponsored by Senator Tom Casperson would make it a felony to fail to report that a child in their care was missing.

The move stems from fallout due to the Casey Anthony trial and is nicknamed “Caylee’s Law”. Anthony allegedly failed to notify authorities that her daughter was missing for several days. Anthony was eventually found Not Guilty on murder charges involving her daughter’s death.

If made into law, a person failing to report a missing child would face up to two years in prison.

The bill still needs to be passed by the Senate.
