$500,000 Grant to U.P. Biotech Firm

A U.P. biotech company is the beneficiary of a half-million-dollar grant.

The Nitrate Elimination Company in Lake Linden was awarded the money to develop safe and easy test kits for phosphate, which is important in agriculture and protection of water quality.

The grant comes from the Small Business Innovation Research Program of the National Institute of Agriculture.

The best part about the grant — it means jobs.

The company is adding staff for the research phase and at the end of the grant, the company will have a new product for its customers.
