High-Speed Crash in Wilson

A high-speed police chase ends when an alleged drunk driver crashes head–on with a semi over the weekend.

Hannahville Indian Community Police received a call early Sunday morning of an intoxicated driver in the Wilson area.

Officers found the suspect and attempted a traffic stop.

The driver fled eastbound on US-2 and 41 at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

After maneuvering the construction zone on the highway in the pine ridge area, the driver crossed the center line and crashed head–on into a semi.

Both vehicles exploded into flames.

The suspect was extricated while the vehicle was engulfed in flames and was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital and later transported to Marquette General.

The driver of the semi is not believed to have sustained life–threatening injuries.

The names of those involved have not yet been released

A Hannahville Police officer received treatment at OSF St. Francis for smoke inhalation.

The Michigan State Police, Escanaba Public Safety, the Delta County Sheriff’s Department and the Menominee County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
