GONE WITH THE (WOOD)WINDS MSO CHAMBER SERIES BEGINS AT BAY

GONE WITH THE (WOOD)WINDS is the opening concert in this season’s Bay College collaboration with the Marquette Symphony Orchestra. It will feature one of Escanaba’s musical icons, Laura Robinson, on oboe and English horn.

Robinson has performed with a wide range of regional symphonies and chamber groups; she has also conducted a recital at New York’s Julliard School of Music. She is best known locally, though, as a twenty year veteran of Escanaba’s school music programs. Under her leadership, the Middle School program has grown from 70 to more than 200 students, who perform in four bands, two jazz bands, and an extensive chamber program. Her students have consistently earned top ratings in state and regional music festivals. As a result, Robinson has earned teacher-of-the-year awards and a Fulbright Award that allowed her to travel and teach in Japan.

Laura is a founding member of the MSO and its principal oboist. She has served as coordinator for Bay’s Chamber series as well as the program host since its inception. Her mastery of her instrument and her devotion to music education have earned her the respect and gratitude of of parents and peers alike. Sunday’s concert will display the great range of her talents, as well as those of musical colleagues Claudia Drosen on flute, Kevin Nutini on clarinet, Nancy Redfern on piano, and Rachel Nutini on cello in a richly varied program.

The concert begins at 3 pm on Sunday, September 11, in Bay College’s Besse Center theater. Tickets are available at the box office or online at baycollege.edu. Admission is $10, $5 for students.
