Mqt. Mayor Running for State Rep

Marquette Mayor John Kivela announced today that he’ll run for State Representative in 2012.

Kivela will be campaigning for the seat of outgoing Marquette State Representative Steve Lindberg.

Kivela has been on the Marquette City Commission since 2006 and has served as mayor since 2008.

He says he’d been considering running for the state House for a number of years, and with both Lindberg and himself term-limited out of their respective offices next year, this seemed like the perfect time.

Marquette resident Tony Retaskie, president of the MAPS Board of Education, has also he’s running for that same seat.

The two will run against each other in the 2012 Democratic primary.
