County Board Commits $75,000 to ‘W’ Group
There’s progress in the fight to re–open the ‘W’ at Sawyer, the former West Branch Community and Fitness Center.
Community Hand–UP is well on it’s way to having enough money to purchase the facility before it goes up for auction.
Last night the group held a final fundraiser.
Their goal was to raise at least $100,000 to purchase the building and have enough left over for start–up costs.
In an unexpected twist last night while the fundraiser was taking place, the Marquette County Board approved a motion to give Community Hand-UP $75,000 toward the purchase.
It was a 5-4 vote.
The organization will continue to collect money for the rest of the week.
They hope to make arrangements with West Branch Township before the auction, which is scheduled for Saturday.
